Programme-Experiential Stage 2012

The Experiential Stage is something that can happen only at night in the cathedral. Each night will be a unique experience with great chemistry somewhere between gentle reflection and unrest, between the known and the undiscovered, between jazz, classical, experimental and improvisation. Unique music in a unique place.

CHŁOPCY KONTRA BASIA - this type of music has never been heard at SAF

Chłopcy Kontra Basia take Polish folklore as their starting point. The authors of the texts and music reach back to frivolous songs, old ballads, patriotic songs and village sing-alongs with mythological roots. The band is very minimal-just vocals, clarinet, percussion and bass and their sound is subtle and dark, fun and shocking, somewhere between jazz and folk.

Keep this date open: July 10, midnight, Experiential Stage.

Chłopcy Kontra Basia is:
Basia Derlak - song, clarinet, mouth harp
Marcin Nenko – string bass
Tomasz Waldowski - drums, futujara, percussion

GRZECH PIOTROWSKI and PAWEŁ BZIM ZARECKI – you’ll remember this concert for a long time!

Grzech Piotrowski and Paweł Bzim Zarecki- are two of the most interesting individuals in the Polish music scene. Paweł and Grzech have worked together for years. Their stage personalities compliment each other and their music goes straight to the hearts of their listeners. You won’t forget their concert in the ArtCathedral for a long time!

Grzech Piotrowski is hard to put into a box since he’s a saxophonist, producer (concerts for national TV, records for EMI, Sony, Universal) and a publisher. He’s won many prestigious awards and has toured with the best jazz and pop musicians. He’s the author of the World Orchestra project where roots world music meets jazz, impressionism and film music. The WO concert last year at Solidarity of Arts 2011 in Gdansk was a huge success with more than 80 artists from Poland, Norway, Russia, Bulgaria, Bashkiria, Holland, Siberia and Moldavia on stage.

Paweł Zarecki has performed before on the Experiential Stage, but each year with a different group. Pianist, composer, arranger, award-winning producer and visionary, he works with the top of Poland’s jazz and pop world such as Mietek Szcześniak and Anna Maria Jopek. He was voted Producer of the Year in 2003 for “Upojenie” by Anna Maria Jopek and Pat Metheny. He works as a producer in Poland and abroad.

This project started as one big improvisation and experiment with music. The funky sounds weave simultaneously with dissonance which enters the atmosphere, never to return. Using images from the Soviet anatomy professor, Sinielnikow, VJ Mico will surgically cut the air with his sleight of hand.
